To get an army of people fasting and praying for the church and the nation on the third Wednesday of each month.
This is a water fast, no food or other drinks. This is a one day, one time commitment. Next month there will be a new sign-up.
Q: Why is it important to sign-up? Why not just fast and pray on that day without signing up?
A: Signing up is a way of making a definite commitment, and it signifies the importance of joining together in agreement with others.
Q: Why do you want my email?
A: I will send you an email the day before the fast to remind you.
Q: Why do you want to list names publicly? Isn’t that a temptation to be prideful?
A: While acknowledging the temptation to be prideful about anything we do in public, I believe the benefits outweigh the risks. First, if someone who knows you is considering this day of fasting, they will likely be encouraged to join by seeing your name and commitment. Second, a list of names will make it possible for people to contact one another about praying together on that day. In scripture, there are many examples of public, corporate fasting, as well as private, individual fasting (1 Sam. 7:6, 2 Chr. 20:3, Ez. 8:21, Neh. 9:1, Es. 4:16, Jer. 36:9, Jl. 2:15-17, Jon. 3:5, Acts 13:3).
Q: Can I participate by partial fasting or praying?
A: I encourage people to participate in whatever way they are able and feel led to. While the sign-up is for those who commit to a water only fast, I encourage everyone to be a part of this day in some way. Even young children can give up something, like a snack, as they learn the importance of fasting with prayer.
Q: Are you going to organize prayer meetings on that day?
A: No, I believe it will be more effective for people to take the initiative to contact friends or church members and arrange prayer times. I envision people fasting and praying all across America, morning, noon, and night, privately and publicly, both individually and in groups.
