Is There A Cause?

All over the Middle East, people are taking to the streets for the cause of freedom. They are praying, speaking, rallying, and marching. And in some cases they are fighting and being killed for the cause. It is a revolution of historical proportions. Clearly, people believe in the cause and have stepped out of their ordinary routines, often putting themselves at personal risk for a chance at freedom.

The freedoms sought in the Middle East have long been the birthright of every American. Freedom of speech, freedom of association, freedom of information, freedom of movement, and the list of freedoms we enjoy goes on and on. We can be thankful to God and to our forebears that there is no need for such a freedom revolution in America.

But is there a cause in America? Is there any reason for people to join together in a mass movement in order to have an “Egypt moment”? Is there anything worth fighting for?

I believe there is a cause, a reason for people to join together, something worthy of personal sacrifice. But it doesn’t involve fighting in the usual way, rather it requires spiritual warfare. It is fighting through prayer and fasting.

Quite simply, the cause in America can be summed up in just a few words: as a nation “We must turn back to God.” The meaning of that phrase can be found in 2 Chr. 7:14, “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

For the nation to turn back to God, for there to be divine healing in the land, God’s people need to join together in acting upon 2 Chr. 7:14. The need to pray and turn from our wicked ways is pretty self-explanatory. What a lot of people do not understand is that the most direct way to humble yourself and seek God’s face is through fasting.

It is beyond the scope of this blog to go into greater detail here, but this past Sunday I preached a sermon entitled, “Message to America” that summarizes my views on our situation in America and the needed response. I am not ordained as a minister, neither am I a preacher by vocation, but I believe God has given me a message for America. You can listen to the message by using the audio player at the beginning of this blog post.

If you agree that we need to fast and pray for America, I invite you to join us on March 16th, and spread the word to your friends though email and Facebook. There is a cause, and in this hour of need, God is calling people to fast and pray for our nation. It is our best hope and the key to the future of America.

Prayer is all that is left. During Obama’s campaign he pledged to destroy America. It was not in any exact words, but in the spaces of the words he did not say. He kept saying that he would take back America––take it back from whom? “We, the people…” the constitution has; yet this presidency has had the constitution debated a lot.
Some people that I’ve talked to said they did not want to give up their way of life by ‘getting religion’ or ‘turning to God’. What they did’t realize is that you are not giving up anything, but gaining a lot. You get new friends, peace of mind, happiness and an inner joy. If you lose your old friends, maybe they were not worth having.
God is real. Just because you don’t want to believe in Him, doesn’t make it so. It’s nice having Him on your side. You can only get Him on your side when you invite him into your heart.
We are in the end times. Too many have turned from God and too many others have looked the other way. I did for a long time, trying to be politically correct. I should have known better. I’ve been a born-again Christian for 50 years. Obama was a wake up call for me. I am spending more time in prayer and reading my Bible than ever before. More of us need to. We need to seek God’s face and humble ourselves as Richard says.
I’d like my Golden Years to be a little brighter; right now, they’re kind of glum.

I agree with every one of your articles. It is a breath of fresh air to hear/read from one who understands and sees Americas plight as in the “big picture” in this moment of history. I hope people reading it will take it to heart, as we could and should learn from past history. “The wise man learns from others mistakes, the fool does not learn from his own”. Let us not be fools. I have seen these things happen once before and do not look forward experiencing it again.

I believe that fasting and prayer and REPENTANCE are essential to bring God’s blessing on America. Repentance involves a change of mind — not just a change of opinions, but more importantly, the basis as well as the process and results of our thinking.

This means that God’s Word must provide us with our philosophy of government, our political goals and our mission. In addition, we must stand forthrightly for Jesus Christ as our great Prophet, Priest and KING.

Let us leave off from promoting politicians who speak of God and country using inclusivist terms, trying to appeal equally to Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims as well as to Christians. Let us pray for forthrightly Christian leaders, not Judaeo-Christian ones.

Jesus commissioned us to disciple the nations. As long as “Christian” leaders continue to compromise in their speech, goals and agenda, we shall fail to accomplish that task in our nation.
